i went on a bus tour from cambodia to vietnam and they had us pay 20$ up front for a visa. When we got to the border, they payed there for the visas i believe.

You can get a Cambodian visa going into Cambodia at some of the crossings… Check with a travel agent first.
BUT. You cannot get a Vietnamese visa at any border crossing no matter what the country. You must have your Visa in advance. You can get a Visa on arrival for the Big international airports if you set it up in advance.
I have been using these guys for several years. give them a try and they have good hot lines where you can call and get current information. They also return emails very quickly.
But I stress. You cannot get a Viet visa at the border.
the previous poster did not get the Visa at the border. His tour company did it in advance and he just thought that it was issued at the border.

You can not get a Vietnamese visa at the border gate. You must get the visa in Advance. Here are some ways for your to get the visa
- Contact Vietnamese embassy in your country to get visa stamp.
- Contact a travel agent in Vietnam to get the Visa Approval Code for you and then you take the code to Vietnamese Embassy and get Stamp
- Contact a Travel agent in Vietnam and get the approval code and then arrive in Vietnam by flights and get the Stamp (it doesn’t word at the border gates, just work in the airport and in Vietnam, we call it visa on arrival but arranged in advance already).
- If you didn’t do those above, when you are in Cambodia, come to vietnamese embassy in Cambodia to get stamped.

You must have the so called ” visa approval code” or visa letter prior to departure. Without this paper you are not allowed to get the visa done upon arrival to the border. Your travel agent can help you with this and identify which border gate is faisible for visa upon arrival. Some borders you must have valid visa in advance. For a peace of mind you can get the visa done at Vietnamese Embassy in Phompenh. It costs around US$25. It take 1-2day time and US$25 in cash with 2photos of passport size.
